Occupation overview

Rail engineering technicians provide technical support within the different engineering disciplines that make up railway infrastructure and train operations. Apprentices will specialise in one discipline of the role alongside their core learning. 

Rail engineering technicians work safely to provide a safe and reliable rail experience for customers, from construction and installation to regular maintenance and renewal.

End-point assessment with EAL

EAL is an end-point assessment organisation (EPAO), and listed on the Apprenticeship Providers and Assessment Register (APAR). 

EAL has been at the heart of new apprenticeship standards development, supporting employer trailblazer development groups for key industry occupations since 2013, when the reforms began.
