Occupation overview

Plate welders are tasked with manually welding plate and structural components to the correct specification, working safely and accurately on a wide variety of projects from ships and submarines to buildings and bridges.  

Learning the role requires knowledge of many specific controls, techniques, and equipment, and gaining the skills to fabricate components and assembles of differing sizes. 

End-point assessment with EAL 

EAL is an end-point assessment organisation (EPAO), and listed on the Apprenticeship Providers and Assessment Register (APAR). 

EAL has been at the heart of new apprenticeship standards development, supporting employer trailblazer development groups for key industry occupations since 2013, when the reforms began.
