Occupation overview

Aircraft maintenance technicians work to ensure that their diverse fleet remains airworthy. Employers large and small hire for the role, ranging from small airfield maintenance operators to large commercial airlines, and the military. 

The role involves checking, repair, and modification of aircraft components and systems. It also requires safety checks and timely scheduling of work.

Mandated qualification route

Apprentices are expected to follow only one of the available routes. For ease of use, the end-point assessment has been separated into two sections. This page covers the mandated qualification route.

End-point assessment with EAL 

EAL is an end-point assessment organisation (EPAO), and listed on the Apprenticeship Providers and Assessment Register (APAR). 

EAL has been at the heart of new apprenticeship standards development, supporting employer trailblazer development groups for key industry occupations since 2013, when the reforms began.
