UK Battery Industrialisation Centre becomes an official EAL Centre 

We’re pleased to share that the UK Battery Industrialisation Centre (UKBIC) has become an EAL centre, strengthening a growing partnership that is helping to build the UK’s workforce for the battery manufacturing revolution. 

Based in Coventry and established to support the scale-up of battery technology and production, UKBIC will now deliver training and qualifications as an EAL Centre. This new status marks a significant step in extending industry-aligned skills development at one of the UK’s most advanced battery facilities. 

UKBIC already works closely with EAL through collaborative initiatives, including the launch of pioneering battery manufacturing courses designed to meet the sector’s rapidly increasing skills needs. In 2025, EAL and UKBIC worked together to develop and launch the Level 2 Award in Battery Manufacturing – a qualification created with direct input from UKBIC experts to give learners practical, industry-relevant experience and support the UK’s expanding battery industry. 

Industry-aligned training for a fast-growing sector 

UKBIC’s training portfolio includes both bespoke and open-course options, such as Introduction to Battery Manufacturing, alongside specialised modules covering electrode manufacture, cell assembly and other key stages of the battery production process. UKBIC proudly highlights its relationship with EAL as part of its training offer, reinforcing the quality and industry relevance of its programmes. 

Becoming an EAL Centre builds on previous collaboration between the two organisations and reflects a shared commitment to developing high-quality technical skills for advanced manufacturing, particularly in electric vehicle (EV) batteries and energy storage technologies. 

Supporting the UK’s battery manufacturing workforce

UKBIC sits at the heart of battery innovation in the UK, and formalising this partnership creates more opportunities for learners and employers to access world‑class training aligned to real industrial needs.

“UKBIC delivers training in a fully equipped, industrial‑grade, giga‑scale environment where candidates work directly with real, production‑scale battery manufacturing equipment – not classroom simulations or pilot rigs. The type of hands‑on experience offered is usually only available within commercial gigafactories.”

As an officially recognised EAL centre, we can now register learners for qualifications and benefit from EAL’s quality assurance, assessment processes and centre support services. The announcement comes at a time of rapid growth in the UK battery sector, with increasing demand for skilled technicians and engineers as manufacturers and supply chains scale up. Earlier collaborations between EAL and UKBIC have already helped push the boundaries of battery production skills, and this expanded partnership will further strengthen the UK’s capability to deliver a future-ready workforce.
