Welcome to our qualification updates for September 2026. We're pleased to bring you the latest updates on qualifications this month. This edition covers a range of changes, including a new qualification, amendments, extensions following review, an extension pending review, document updates and qualification withdrawals.

Type of change: Extension following review

• These qualifications have been extended for funding in Wales (QiW) until 28 February 2029.

• These qualifications have been granted further funding in England, Northern Ireland and Wales until 31 December 2029.

• This qualification has been reviewed and extended in England and Wales. The following have been updated and will be made available via Online Services: Qualification Specification, Amendment Document, and Delivery Unit.

Qualification Name: EAL Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Fabrication and Welding Engineering (Qualification Code: 600/9174/5)

Type of change: Extension following review

• The qualification review date has been extended. This nationally recognised, work-based qualification for individuals working in the fabrication and welding industry. It develops the practical skills, knowledge, and competence needed to perform fabrication and welding tasks safely and effectively in the workplace, in line with current National Occupational Standards (NOS) and industry requirements.
• Key areas covered: Health and safety, Engineering drawings and documentation, Efficient working practices Fabrication and welding techniques.
• Specialist pathways such as Manual Welding, Structural Steelwork, Pipework Fabrication, Sheet Metalwork, Platework, Thermal Cutting, and Welding Machine Operations.
• Outcome: Successful learners demonstrate occupational competence through workplace assessment and gain a qualification that supports progression within the engineering and manufacturing sector

• The EAL SVQ Fabrication and Welding Engineering at SCQF Level 6 - GT26 46 has been extended until the 31st of October 2029

Qualification Name: EAL Level 2 Certificate in Cycle Maintenance (Qualification Code: 603/0586/1)

Type of change: Extension following review

• Our EAL Level 2 Certificate in Cycle Maintenance qualification - 603/0586/1 has been extended until the 30th of November 2029.

Qualification Name: EAL Level 2 Certificate in Warehousing and Storage (Qualification Code: 501/1707/5)

Type of change: Extension pending review

• This qualification has been extended for a temporary period of 3 months to allow for a wider review to be completed.

• The EAL Diploma in Engineering and Digital Manufacturing at SCQF Level 8 - R709 04 has been extended to the 28th of February 2028.

• The code for Mandatory Unit Working efficiently and effectively in engineering has been changed from SMME3/003 to SMME2/003. No changes have been made to the unit content.

Qualification Name: EAL Level 2 Certificate and Diploma in Engineering Operations (Knowledge) (Qualification Code: 603/3194/X & 603/3195/1)

• Update to EAL Level 2 Certificate (603/3194/X) and Diploma (603/3195/1) in Engineering Operations (Knowledge): Appendix 1 of the Qualification Specification has been amended to show the permitted materials for EOK2/003 – Engineering Mathematics and Science Principles.

Qualification Name: EAL Level 3 Diploma & Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge) (Qualification Code: 603/1353/5 & 603/1354/7)

• Update to Level 3 Diploma Qualification Codes: 603/1353/5 and Extended Diploma 603/1354/7 in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge). Amendment to AMEDK3-038 Delivery Pack, removal of duplicated learning outcomes.
