Qualification updates - June 2026

Welcome to our qualification updates for July 2026. We're pleased to bring you the latest updates on qualifications this month. This edition covers a range of changes, including new qualifications, amendments to qualification structures, extensions following review, and document updates.

Updates:

Qualification Name: EAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering Technologies (Qualification Code: 601/5802/5)

Type of change: Amendment to Qualification Structure

• A new unit, QET3-107, has been added to Group B Optional Units and the Rule of Combination has been updated. A revised Qualification Specification, Amendment Document and associated Assessment Materials will be available for download and use from 1 July 2026.

Qualification Name: EAL Level 3 Technical Extended Diploma in Engineering Technologies (Qualification Code: 603/0564/2)

Type of change: Amendment to Qualification Structure

• A new unit, QET3-107, has been added to Group B Optional Pathway Units for Pathway B. The Rule of Combination has been updated. A revised Qualification Specification, Amendment Document and associated Assessment Materials will be available for download and use from 1 July 2026.

• This qualification has been reviewed and extended in England and Northern Ireland. The Qualification Specification, Amendment Document and unit documents for NELTK3/02, NELTK3/03 and N18ED3/04 have been updated and will be available via Online Services.

Qualification Name: EAL Building Services Engineering (Level 3) – Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heat Pumps / EAL Peirianneg Gwasanaethau Adeiladu (Lefel 3) – Oeri, Aerdymheru a Phympiau Gwres (Qualification Code: C00/5331/4)

Type of change: New Qualification

• This qualification supports the growth of the refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump (RACHP) sector in Wales by developing multi-skilled technicians with the knowledge and practical skills required to install, maintain, service and fault-find RACHP systems.
• The qualification helps improve workforce flexibility and industry capacity by preparing learners to plan and carry out work safely across commercial, industrial and residential settings, including specialist areas such as transport refrigeration.

Qualification Name: EAL Level 2 Award in Introduction to Infrared Thermal Imaging Technology (Qualification Code: 610/7487/1)

Type of change: New Qualification

• This VRQ provides learners with the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to safely use infrared (IR) cameras. It covers key thermography principles, including heat transfer, emissivity, reflection and transmission, alongside hands-on experience in setting up and operating IR equipment.
• The qualification is suitable for those working in, or entering, construction, engineering, facilities management and manufacturing, where infrared technology is used for condition monitoring and maintenance. It focuses on safe working practices, accurate image capture and basic reporting of results.

Qualification Name: EAL Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and EAL Level 3 NVQ Extended Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Qualification Code: 600/9590/8 and 600/9931/8)

Type of change: Only Document Updates

• The 36 electrical and electronic units contained within these qualifications have been updated to reflect the latest National Occupational Standards (NOS). Minor wording changes have been made to some performance criteria, and the knowledge and understanding criteria have been refreshed throughout. Centres are advised to review the revised unit documentation and familiarise themselves with the updated content.

Qualification Name: EAL Level 3 Electrotechnical Qualification (Qualification Code: 601/7345/2)

• A Candidate Background Form for non-apprentice learners is now available through Online Services.

Qualification Name: EAL Level 3 NVQ Extended Diploma in Engineering Toolmaking (Qualification Code: 600/1667/X)

Type of change: Only Document Updates

• The Engineering Toolmaking units within this qualification have been updated to reflect the latest EAL branding and formatting. A new Qualification Specification – Unit Summaries Document has also been created and uploaded to EAL Connect.

Qualification Name: EAL Level 3 Award in the Design, Installation and Commissioning of Electrical Energy Storage Systems (Qualification Code: 610/2091/6)

Type of change: Only Document Updates

• The order of Section 5 requirements within the Qualification Specification has been amended, with additional clarification provided regarding learner entry requirements and the assessment of competence. Updated documents are available via Online Services.

Qualification Name: EAL Level 3 Award in the Installation of Small-scale Solar Photovoltaic Systems (Qualification Code: 600/5175/9)

Type of change: Only Document Updates

• The order of Section 5 requirements within the Qualification Specification has been amended, with additional clarification provided regarding learner entry requirements and the assessment of competence. Updated documents are available via Online Services.

Qualification Name: Level 3 Extended Diploma in Machining and Level 3 Diploma in Machining (Qualification Code: 610/0793/6 and 603/1033/9)

• The Amendment Document for the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Machining has been updated to reflect the correct issue number for unit AME3/004 Delivery Pack.
• In addition, a new version of knowledge assessment AME3-004B has been issued for both qualifications. The corresponding Delivery Pack and Amendment Documents have been updated accordingly.

• A fully updated knowledge assessment has been introduced for unit EMST3-003, ensuring the content reflects current industry standards.
