The EAL Level 2 Intermediate Diploma in Plumbing is a Vocational Related Qualification (VRQ). It has been specifically designed for 16-19 year old learners in full time education who are interested in a career in plumbing. It has been specifically designed for learners to complete during the first year of a 16-19 study programme, allowing them to progress to the Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Plumbing in the second year, or at a later stage in the programme. The qualification may also be suitable for other learners, including adults, who are interested in plumbing and/or are considering a career change.
The qualification provides learners with practical experience of plumbing and an expectation of some of the situations that they could face as a plumber in the building services sector. More specifically, it provides learners with the required underpinning knowledge and related practical skills they will need to progress on to the Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Plumbing and to subsequently pursue a career in this occupational area. Key topics include health and safety and communication within the building services environment, scientific principles within the plumbing and heating industry, pipework fabrication process and techniques, and installation and maintenance techniques for cold water, hot water, central heating, above ground drainage, and rainwater systems.
The qualification does not require evidence of occupational competence in the workplace.
