The EAL Diploma in Engineering at SCQF Level 7 is designed to recognise the competence of engineering operatives and technicians across a range of engineering environments. This requires the learner to be employed in a relevant engineering role. It also underpins the three new Modern Apprenticeships in Engineering. These are:
This Competence Based Qualification is made up of 26 units of competence and 1 knowledge unit, these have been created by the Technical Expert Group tasked with designing this qualification, with input from the engineering industry, employers and training providers. These units contain performance, skills and underpinning knowledge requirements. The unit documents allow both the learner and the assessor to record the learners progress through the qualification. The units contain the performance to be assessed, the knowledge to be assessed and the evidence required from the learners to demonstrate their skills. One unit contains only underpinning knowledge to be assessed and evidenced.
In order to achieve this qualification each learner will be required to attain all mandatory units and the required number of optional assessment units within the relevant pathway as detailed within the qualification structure in section 3.0 of the qualification manual.
The pathways are: Engineering Asset Lifecycle and Maintenance; Engineering Manufacturing and Fabrication; Engineering Technical Support.
The overall grading type for this qualification is competent / not yet competent.
Learners will be required to create a Portfolio of Evidence to prove their competence in the workplace. Learners should therefore select the units that reflect the job role they carry out in their workplace to be able to obtain the required workplace evidence.
Learners will be assessed in relation to their chosen discipline and endorsed accordingly. The endorsement will be printed on their certificate to show future employers which discipline was covered during their assessment.
