David Pye from EAL reflects on a remarkable event bringing together committed, capable learners displaying their skills.
As a lead technical advisor, it's a privilege to engage with the delivery network. One of the most enjoyable and enterprising ways to engage with providers is through various skills competitions. This is an opportunity for EAL advisors – former tutors themselves – to witness the fantastic work of learners working through their training.
We are delighted to support with the HIP and SPARKS competitions in 2025, witnessing first-hand the highly competent work of these enthusiastic learners. The standard is exceptionally high, and their conduct and professionalism has been a credit to themselves and their centres. The quality of the work and the conduct of learners is a demonstration of the commitment by their tutors, who guide and coach learners to progress through the challenging plumbing and electrical qualifications.
The Pan Island Skills competition, bringing together Jersey, Guernsey and Isle of Man Colleges, is a real credit to the islands and the commitment by centres in managing the difficult logistics to bring together these talented learners. This is a fantastic opportunity to share skills and collaborate with others to the benefit of teaching and learning.
EAL advisors are all from our respective trades, so to be able to see the next generation of skilled workers close-up is a highlight of our year. It reminds us of the important work we do at Assessment Organisations, and the ultimate goals and benefits.
EAL would like to congratulate all the learners who attended these competitions, you've done so well to get this far, you should all be very proud.
