What is this qualification?

These qualifications provides learners with practical experience of smart meter installation and an expectation of some of the situations that they could face as a meter installer in the Power sector.More specifically, it provides learners with the required underpinning knowledge and related practical skills they will need to prove competence and to subsequently pursue a career in this occupational area.

What are the pre-requisites?

Key topics include working practices in the energy and utilities sector, working safely in the energyand utilities sector, using and communicating technical information in the energy and utilities sector,delivering customer service when working within the energy and utilities sector, Install and commissioncommunication systems for smart meters and specific fuel units.

Who is this qualification for?

These qualifications are predominantly for learners who work in the Power Industry that need to be competent in installing smart meters. The qualifications may also be suitable for learners who are interested in smart metering and/or are considering a career change. The qualifications have been specifically designed as a competence component in the Apprenticeship framework.

How is this qualification assessed?

The internal assessments are set by EAL and marked by members of the delivery team at the Centre. Where the assessment takes the form of written/short answer or multiple choice question papers, these must be treated as controlled assessments.
