These qualifications equip existing workers with the skills to help meet carbon reduction targets by lowering energy consumption, reducing emissions and conserving water. The suite features nine qualifications, including a single-unit knowledge qualification with no specific entry requirements focussing on the fundamental principles of environmental technology systems. Learners can progress to cover the knowledge and skills to install or install and maintain small scale solar photovoltaic, solar thermal hot water, heat pumps, or water harvesting and recycling systems.

Centres should ensure that the learners have the potential to achieve the units selected within this qualification. Learners must have the minimum levels of literacy and numeracy to comply with the health and safety aspects of the scheme, the completion of the learning outcomes and the assessments.

Learners looking to progress in the sector and work with micro-renewable energy and water conservation technologies. Existing workers who are qualified and competent in a building services trade and are looking to gain skills and knowledge relating to environmental technologies.

Each knowledge unit features an external on-screen exam, with a further internal Centre marked assignment for the unit covering the knowledge to install, commission and handover the choice of technology. The performance units can be assessed in the workplace or in simulated conditions. EAL provides specifications for all practical assessments.

The knowledge units are delivered in a classroom or workshop, with performance units based in the workplace or a simulated environment.
