This nationally accredited EAL qualification in compressed and liquefied gases safety is offered in partnership with Proactive Gas Safety (PGS), the training partner of Air Liquide in the UK. This qualification provides learners with evidence of their competencies and skills, to support their ongoing career development and help employers demonstrate the abilities of their workforce.

This qualification applies to users of compressed gases, covering the hazards and properties of gases and the safe use of the associated equipment.

This qualification enables learners to apply the knowledge gained for the safe operation and use of compressed gases in the workplace.  It ensures learners will understand the hazards and properties of compressed gases in use and demonstrate the differences between safe and unsafe behaviours and practices.  They will develop and demonstrate practical workplace skills in the safe operation, storage, transport and movement of compressed gases cylinders.  They will be able to use cylinder gases equipment knowledgeably, safely and in compliance with current legislation and Codes of Practice.

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification; although centres should ensure that the learners have the potential to achieve the units within this qualification. Learners must have the minimum levels of literacy and numeracy to comply with the health and safety aspects of the scheme, the completion of the learning outcomes and the external assessment.

This qualification is relevant to learners from a wide range of industry backgrounds and work environments, including engineering and manufacturing, laboratory, chemical, transport, defence and cryogenic gas.
