EAL L3 Award in the Requirements for Fire Detection and Alarm Systems in Dwellings
This qualification covers the knowledge and understanding of the requirements for fire detection and alarm systems in dwellings. The focus is on fire detection and alarm systems within Grades D – F, but will also cover Grades A and C. It will introduce the various key legislation and regulations that apply; whilst enabling the Learner to recognise that UK nations have different minimum requirements or recommendations.
It is aimed at electricians and other BSE professionals who wish to demonstrate they have the necessary understanding associated with fire detection and alarm systems in dwellings.
It covers fire risk assessments, design, installation and commissioning, and certification and maintenance of fire detection and fire alarm systems in dwellings.
It is supported by the Fire and Security Association (FSA).
Centres should ensure that the learner has the potential to achieve the qualification. Learners must have the minimum levels of literacy and numeracy to complete the learning outcomes and assessments.
Centres should make learners with particular requirements aware of the content of the qualification and they should be given every opportunity to successfully complete the qualification. EAL will consider any reasonable suggestions for, and from, those with disabilities that would help them to achieve the learning outcomes without compromising the standards required.

The qualification is awarded when the single unit for the qualification has been achieved. The centre will then be able to apply for the Learner’s certificate. The learner will also receive a certificate of unit credit. The grading for this qualification is Pass (or refer) only. If the learner fails, they will not receive a certificate.
