This qualification allows the learner to develop the skills to carry out the activities and responsibilities of an Engineer Surveyor. These include carrying out thorough examinations and inspections of plant, machinery, installations and associated equipment as is necessary to determine their condition and specifically regarding their continued safe use. It is designed to fulfil the criteria of a 'competent person' and provide 'competence' to undertake the statutory thorough examinations and inspections required.

Learners should have relevant engineering experience, maturity and credibility.
The qualification assumes that on entry the learner has undertaken training to achieve qualifications and credits to a specified minimum standard.
This will be assessed using common criteria involving an audit of the qualifications and relevant engineering experience and training together with a professional interview to assess the learner's ability.

Learners engaged in engineer inspection and examination activities, whether this is as an employee of an independent inspection company, company carrying out inspections 'in house' for their own plant and machinery, or as individuals and contractors.

The qualification is assessed by Centre set and Centre marked knowledge and practical assessments. The assessments involve collecting and evaluating evidence that demonstrates achievement of the learning outcomes in the units. The internal assessments are accompanied by marking criteria and other material to ensure that the delivery team is consistent in their approach to internal assessment across learners.
The Centre is responsible for ensuring that internal assessment is suitably controlled to ensure that assessment decisions are valid and reliable and that work submitted for assessment by learners is prepared and produced by them independently, without assistance from others and free of plagiarism.

• Reporting for Engineer Surveyors
