This suite of qualifications recognises the essential competencies for managing the operational and strategic performance of teams and businesses. The mandatory units at levels 2 and 3 cover personal development, relationships and communication. At levels 5 and 7, they cover planning and leadership at an operational or strategic level. Each level features a wide choice of optional units, meaning the qualifications can be tailored to suit many roles.

Centres should ensure that the learners have the potential to achieve the units selected within this qualification. Learners must have the minimum levels of literacy and numeracy to comply with the health and safety aspects of the scheme, the completion of the learning outcomes and the assessments.

Learners looking to gain occupational competence in order to drive the performance of teams and businesses. Existing managers and team leaders looking for formal recognition of their abilities.


Assessment is carried out in the workplace, with learners gathering a portfolio of evidence to show their achievements against the standards. Where this is not possible, a small number of level 1 units allow for the use of simulation.
