Rail Engineering Underpinning Knowledge

This qualification is a Vocational Related Qualification (VRQ). It involves developing the skills and knowledge needed for working in a range of railway engineering roles. VRQs are mapped to national occupational standards and are intended to the support education and training of a learner entering the railway engineering sector. The achievement of this VRQ will support learners in developing their skills and potential within the railway engineering sector. This qualification is also a Technical Certificate in the Enginuity Level 2 Rail Infrastructure Apprenticeship Framework.

There are no entry qualifications or age limits required by learners to undertake this qualification unless this is a legal requirement of the process or the environment. Assessment is open to any learner who has the potential to achieve the assessment criteria set out in the assessment.

Learners who are undertaking a Enginuity apprenticeship and wish to progress onto an advanced apprenticeship Those who are working in a railway engineering role and would like to work towards a Level 2 knowledge qualification Those who are new to railway engineering but are looking for a career change and wish to develop new knowledge and skills within the industry.

The qualification is assessed by the completion of one or more Centre devised assessments. These assessments are developed locally by the Centre and can be applied to a range of rail engineering activities. All Centre devised assessments must follow EAL procedures and be approved by EAL prior to use. Learners are not required to complete an exam for this qualification.

This qualification is delivered by classroom based learning sessions.
