Intermediate Diploma in Electrical Installation

Electrotechnical
Diploma
601/4561/4

The qualification provides learners with the opportunity to practice and be assessed in a secure environment on the installation of wiring systems together with the relevant theory of electrical installation. The learner has the opportunity to utilise the IET On-Site Guide with some of the units, and to also acquire knowledge of electrical science and principles. More specifically, it provides learners with the required underpinning knowledge and related practical skills they will need to progress on to the Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Electrical Installation and to subsequently pursue a career in this occupational area.

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification. However, learners must be at least 16 years of age and have the potential to achieve all aspects of the qualification. In particular, learners should be able to demonstrate that they have the minimum levels of literacy and numeracy required to comply with the health and safety aspects of the scheme, the completion of the learning outcomes, and the assessments.

The Level 2 Intermediate Diploma in Electrical installation is for 16-19 year old learners in full time education who are interested in a career as an electrician. It has been specifically designed for learners to complete during the first year of a 16-19 study programme, allowing them to progress to the Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Electrical Installation in the second year, or at a later stage in the programme. The qualification may also be suitable for other learners, including adults, who are interested in electrical installation and/or are considering a career change.
