The EAL Level 1 Certificate in Introductory Welding Skills is a Vocational Related Qualification (VRQ).  The content and structure of the qualification has been developed to provide a broad based introduction to the practices and processes within welding.  It also supports the development of personal skills and attributes that learners need in order to develop confidence in their ability to work, learn and achieve their full potential.

Learners must be at least 16 years old. There are no formal entry requirements for this qualificationn.  However, learners must have the potential to achieve all aspects of the qualification.  In particular, learners should be able to demonstrate that they have the minimum levels of literacy and numeracy required to comply with the health and safety aspects of the scheme, the completion of the learning outcomes, and the assessments.

This qualification is for learners who:
-Want to start a career in welding engineering
-Are thinking about welding as a career but who would like some experience of the job role first
-Are new to welding
-Work in another aspect of welding engineering and require some practical training

Assessment methods within this qualification include Centre marked practical and theory assessments, which have been designed to assess the knowledge, understanding and skills of learners for individual units.

As an introductory qualification, this is designed to be delivered off the job, in workshop and classroom settings.
