This qualification focuses on knowledge. This ensures that when the learner completes the qualification they will have gained the knowledge and some expectation of some of the situations that they could face in a job role within the sector. It covers the level 2 knowledge and understanding of Stevedoring and has been developed in consultation with colleges, training associations and the Port skills and safety. From this qualification learners may wish to progress to the EAL L3 Supervision of Port operations and relevant qualifications.
This certificate does require occupational evidence. The EAL Centre Operations Manual must be adhered to in the delivery of this qualification.
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification; although centres should ensure that the learners have the potential to achieve the units within this qualification. Learners must have the minimum levels of literacy and numeracy to comply with the health and safety aspects of the scheme, the completion of the learning outcomes and the external assessment.
- Learners who wish to undertake Further Education at level 2
- Those who wish to start a career in the ports industry
- Are working in the ports environment and would like to work towards a relevant Level 2 qualification
- Are new to the ports industry but are looking for a career change or wish to learn new skills.
The qualification is assessed through internal Centre marked assignments and multiple choice tests. It also requires a degree of occupational evidence from the workplace. Detailed assessment guidance, criteria and checklists are provided with each unit.
The qualification includes some performance elements alongside the knowledge content, and can be delivered through a combination of classroom sessions and onsite activities.
