Skills for Wales – Construction and building services engineering

New qualifications – first teaching September 2021

EAL | City & Guilds will be the sole provider of a new suite of fundable Construction and Building Services Engineering qualifications in Wales. Ready for first teaching from September 2021, these qualifications and apprenticeships will start to help simplify the complex landscape of more than 400 qualifications available in the sector.

Qualifications Wales is leading a process to streamline skills and raise standards through a review of the qualifications system across the construction and built environment sector. The Qualifications Wales Building the Future report identified the need to rationalise hundreds of qualifications into a simplified qualification system that had clear progression routes and met the needs of employers and the economy of Wales.

 

UCAS Points

The new UCAS Tariff has been developed to include a wider range of qualifications and a number of EAL Level 3 technical engineering and building services qualifications have been awarded UCAS points. Other qualifications on the Tariff include A-Levels, Scottish Highers, Scottish Advanced Highers, the Welsh Baccalaureate and other knowledge qualifications.
