Christopher-Eckert---Apprentice-of-YearCheshire engineer wins Enginuity Skills Awards 2016

Electrical engineer Christopher Eckert has been named the UK’s top apprentice at the Enginuity Skills Awards.

The 23-year-old, EAL Learner from Warrington, beat off strong competition to be presented with his award, sponsored by Atkins, last night at a gala dinner in London’s Hilton Hotel on Park Lane hosted by BBC journalist, presenter and engineering advocate, Steph McGovern.

IBM apprentice Josh White is celebrating today after being named EAL Advanced Apprentice of the Year. Business analyst Josh, 24, from Coventry, beat off stiff competition from finalists Lauren Tiller and April Bell at the National Apprenticeship Awards held at The Grosvenor Hotel in London.

The Industry Apprentice Council (IAC) – which has been the leading voice for apprentices since 2013 – is launching its third annual survey, designed to provide a picture of the apprentice community’s views on the key issues affecting vocational pathways.

Owen plumbs for Gold

Plumber Owen Boswell hopes to tap into all he knows this week in a bid to be named the best in Britain.

Owen, 21, from Woodbridge near Ipswich is among dozens of EAL learners who have made it through to the national finals for engineering and building services at the Skills Show in Birmingham.

Having beaten off the competition at the Southern regional finals of the SkillsPlumb competition at Chichester College earlier this year, Owen is undergoing three days intense competition in front of thousands of visitors at Birmingham's NEC before finding out at the Big Celebration on Saturday (November 21) night if he is the gold medallist.
