Railway engineering apprenticeships are receiving a boost after specialist industry awarding organisation EAL jumped on board.
EAL has launched 18 new railway engineering qualifications since entering the industry at the end of 2013 – with a view to providing employers with robust, high-quality awards.
“The rail industry is facing a skills shortage ahead of vast investment in the UK’s infrastructure, with projects such as HS2 and Network Rail’s National Electrification Project,” said Allan Macdonald, EAL’s project manager for rail.
He added: “The sector needs a strong skills pipeline to ensure qualified workers are available over the next decade. Now is the time to enter into or grow your rail provision in line with anticipated needs.”
EAL is hosting a webinar on railway engineering apprenticeships on July 30th – to ensure employers, colleges and training providers have the latest information on what is available.
Allan said: “This will support you in making informed decisions about how you offer your apprenticeships and where you can improve quality. For example, we have developed exciting new materials and methodologies for delivering and assessing rail apprenticeships.
“We also employ full-time rail External Verifiers (EVs) who hold Personal Track Safety certifications, enabling them to work trackside supporting you and your learners.”
