John Hillier to Lead Specialist Awarding Organisation
John Hillier has been appointed Chairman of the specialist awarding organisation EAL, it has been announced.
John (pictured above), who has worked in and around qualifications since the mid-1980s, has been on the EAL Board since 1997 and takes up the position of Chairman with immediate effect.
He said: “EAL is a high-quality organisation employing high quality people who provide our customers with a terrific service.
“We have to maintain that quality – and cope with the changing environment surrounding skills and qualifications.
“Government support for qualifications is changing radically. Our job is to ensure continuous development of the organisation so our customers continue to get the support they need to provide fair and reliable assessment.”
The former Chief Executive of the National Council for Vocational Qualifications, from 1990 to 1997, was responsible for the development and introduction of NVQs and GNVQs.
He spent many years in the glass and steel industries working in production and HR management.
He is a Trustee of the Commercial Education Trust, which promotes links between education and industry.
John, aged 72, has worked as a consultant in learning and assessment to the UK government and in many overseas countries.
John, who is based in Bristol and the Conway Valley, is a member of the board of Enginuity – which is engineering skills for the future.
He replaces former Chairman Alastair Imrie who retired from the position last month.
